Castle De Haar
Whether you visit Kasteel de Haar for the park, the wonderful history, the beautiful rooms in the castle, the gardens, the deer or to get married, you will imagine yourself in a different world. Behind every door, every detail, every flower in the colorful gardens and beautiful rooms, there is a story. About other times, other cultures, other figures.
De Haar is the largest castle in the Netherlands, which was once privately owned by the van Zuylen family and where her descendants still stay annually. The international jet set from the last century, with their lavish lifestyle, also regularly visited the castle. From Coco Chanel to Roger Moore, they left their mark in the luxurious rooms of the most opulent place in Utrecht.
Dilapidated ruin
In 1890, Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar inherited the heavily dilapidated De Haar domain. He decides to rebuild this family castle, as a tribute to his glorious ancestors. Together with the extremely wealthy Baroness Hélène de Rothschild, he hired master architect Pierre Cuypers, who was already famous with the Rijksmuseum and the central station in Amsterdam. Cuypers turns De Haar into a true collective work of art, while retaining the original layouts.
Fun for children
At Kasteel de Haar, children can learn everything about the castle and its associated parks and gardens in a playful way. With varied quests in the park and in the castle, they discover the most beautiful places in the castle and the park and get a glimpse into the luxurious life that the baron and baroness led. In addition, children can wander around the maze and spot deer in the large deer park.
